What's New in V2
SELECT V2 introduces a unified experience that simplifies how you manage costs and monitoring. We are planning to migrate all customers to this new experience by October 12th:
Single Pane of Glass
- Before: Separate pages for each Account and Snowflake Organization
- Now: One unified view of all spend across all accounts, with Account and Organization as filters
Simplified Configuration
- Before: Different monitors and usage groups at account vs organization level, with different available fields
- Now: One place to configure all monitors and usage groups, with all fields available
Team-Based Management
- Before: Resources created directly on individual accounts
- Now: Resources managed through Teams that can span multiple accounts
What's Happening to Your Existing Setup
Automatic Migration - No Action Required
Target Date: October 12th
The effective permissions and access will not change.
- A team will be created for each Snowflake account with the name
[Account Name] - Viewers
. This team will be granted the viewer role on the original account. The same will happen with your Snowflake Organization(s). - Your current account/organization-scoped resources will be moved to the corresponding teams:
- Monitors
- Saved views
- Usage group sets
- Access remains the same - All account/Snowflake organization viewers will become viewer members of the corresponding teams, editors and above will become editor members of this team. The resultant allowed actions remain identical.
Using V2
Day 1
- Log in as usual
- Any prior bookmarked URLs will redirect to the appropriate page in the new experience, with the same data displayed
- Your monitors are still alerting, and still monitor the same things. Your usage groups still exist and are accessible to the same users
- Use filters to view specific account or org data
Going Forward
- You can choose to expand existing usage groups to categorise spend coming from multiple accounts, or create new usage group sets for that purpose.
- The same goes for monitors.
- Teams can now have their own usage group sets, which are restricted to only the spend data which that team has access to. For example if that team had only viewer access to only one account, all the spend in the usage group would be equal to the spend from only that account.
Data Share Changes (Data Share Customers Only)
Important Timeline for Data Share Users
We will be transitioning to a new, improved data share structure:
- Coming weeks: New consolidated data share becomes available with all connected account data
- 2 weeks after new share is available: Existing data share tables stop updating
- Future date: Legacy data share tables will be removed
What This Means for You
- Consolidated tables: New tables will include data for ALL your connected accounts
- Migration required: You'll need to update your queries to use the new consolidated tables
- No data loss: All historical data will be available in the new structure
We'll notify you directly when the new data share is ready and provide migration documentation.
Databricks
The described changes are also strongly motivated by SELECT's expansion to managing Databricks costs in the next two quarters. This V2 design is more flexible, and provides a better fit for our multi-platform vision. We're also wary of not making the experience worse for our Snowflake-only customers, which is why we're not removing any existing functionality.
FAQ
Q: Can I still view account-specific data?
A: Yes, use the account filter in the unified view.
Q: Will any APIs change? A: Yes, the snowflake_account_uuid and snowflake_organization_name properties on usage group sets is now invalid. Instead, you'll see a new team_id, and your configuration will need to be updated. To restrict the scope of access of a usage group set, assign it to a team with restricted scopes.
Q: Do I have to use teams?
A: Not at all! We'll just create them automatically to provide a seamless transition. If you'd like to delete them and instead grant access and manage all your resources at the org-level, you're welcome to do so.
